Sneaky Leprechauns!

After some carefully placed finishing touches, Joey's Leprechaun trap was ready to be set.

Not one to be left out of the fun, Logan decided he also wanted to make a leprechaun trap.  He drew up plans for the trap and set to building...

The finished project included a Quaker Oats can made to look like a top hat and some very carefully placed "gold" to lure them in.  Once the leprechaun steps on to the paper towel to grab the gold - DROP! He will fall into the hole and be trapped in the hat.

When we woke up St. Patrick's Day morning the kids raced to their traps to see if they caught a leprechaun. Looks like they did catch one but he managed to escape! Before escaping he dumped out a box of Lucky Charms cereal all over the kitchen (presumably looking for the marshmallows), magically turned all of the gold green, and turned the toilet water green too!

The boys have decided the issue with their traps is they underestimated how strong a sneaky leprechaun is.  Next year we will need to build something stronger - with a lock!
